Heavy rain had followed a stretch of hot, dry weather and while the plants were desperate for the
drink, the blooms were bruised. However, this isn’t a reason not to photograph them as the
Dutch Masters were known to paint decay and imperfection. Each flower here has its own
symbolism and even the butterfly and empty scallop shell tells their own story.
